Method 1. Search for the original document file

Windows Vista or Windows 7
 
Click Start, type the file name in the Start Search box, and then press 'enter' key. If the file list contains the document file, just need to double-click the file to open the document in Word. If the file list does not contain the document, please continue.
 
Click Start, type *.doc or .docx(Microsoft Office Word 2007 documents or Word 2010 documents) in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If the file list contains the document file, just need to double-click the file to open the document in Word. If the File list does not contain the file, continue to Method 2.
 
Microsoft Windows XP
 
Click Start, click Search, and then click For Files or Folders. In the Search for files or folders named box, type the file name. In the Look in box, click My Computer. Click Search Now. If the file list contains the document file, just need to double-click the file to open the document in Word. If the Search Results box does not contain the file, proceed with the following steps to search for all Word documents.
 
In the Search for files or folders named box, type *.doc or *.docx(Microsoft Office Word 2007 documents or Word 2010 documents), and click Search Now. If the file list contains the document file, just need to double-click the file to open the document in Word. If the Search Results box does not contain the file, continue to Method 2.

Method 2. Find It In The Recycle Bin

If the Search Results box does not contain the word document file, we can view the Recycle Bin. Please follow below steps to do this:
1. Double-click the Recycle Bin on the desktop of the Windows.
2. On the View menu, click Details.
3. On the View menu, click Arrange Icons, and then click by Delete Date.
4. Scroll through these files. If we find the document that we want to recover, right-click the document file, and then click 'Restore' menu item.
This procedure returns the document to its original location.
